My ido..thing is: When after dinner and it is time to wash the dishes, I have to put the plates, glasses and the knifes/forks in a special order and in a special place, in the zink (is it called zink? If it is not, then 'diskhon' in swedish and maybe some kind soul will help me out with the english word for it?) If it is not put down as I want it to be, I take it all up again to do it the right way. I can not wash the dishes if it is not done right.

I, just like Poogs, takes the 3rd or 4th magazine behind the first one.. I do like to have them 'fresh'.

I agree with Yavathol about resembling OCD.

As for Ybbie and Poogie, I will do the same with magazines...because the first is usually dishevelled or sometimes torn.

I didn't do that recently with a book and Labyrinth wasn't happy because the cover was torn *sigh* Try to break habits and they come and bite you on the ass!

Ok...I agree with Poogie the checking n times is a woman thing.  Aside
from the ones already mentioned I check to make sure there isn't anyone
in the back seat of my car (at least no one who doesn't belong).  When
the fear is so paralyzing I can't look I ask Nilram to do it (He
gripes rolls his eyes and does it anyway.  Isn't he sweet?!)  I keep a
watchful eye on the review mirror and recheck at stop lights just to
be safe.

I also reorganize multiple times.  Every week before I go to the grocery I
totally clean out and reorganize my fridge and pantry.  Other cabinets
and filing systems get a less frequent reorganization (once a month or
so).  My label maker is the best thing I ever bought!  I label
everything!

I have a major aversion to using other people's showers/sleeping on
their sheets that sort of thing.

If you are a waiter and see me coming you'd do well to bribe the
hostess to seat me in a different section.  I am very particular about
food stuffs in general.  Mayo must go on the bottom bun of a burger,
M&M's must be separated and eaten in order, (I have a system for eating
just about everything actually...and it is rarely just take a
bite...people find reason to comment about this quite often), fast
food papers must be folded a particular way before tossing them, chip
bags must be opened from the top...the list goes on.

Those are the ones that come to mind as they have been mentioned recently.

I do open chip bags on the top unless I do accidentally otherwise (very rarely) and I do double-triple-check things sometimes but not often enough as I do forget things sometimes. So it is not an obsession, I forgot things very easily. That is weird I guess, I forgot much more often and easily than other people, I think. Places, names, faces, and things to do. :p
I have erased some pretty important company-data accidentally (Shift-Del + space  in the wrong window) the other day. They didn't find out. So I don't check stuff often enough. Smile
I do the doublle-triple-checking many times but sometimes I just forget about it. Smile

I almost exclusively use shift-del when deleting...when i'm forced into using Windoze ofc.

Chip bags should ALWAYS be opened from the top, its easier to close if you dont finish all in one sitting.

Hmmm had to wait a bit to post here, to think about this....so here goes...

agree with poogie about the magazines...and also I always want a fresh newspaper to read....to think someone has read my sunday paper before me makes me intollerably mad Wink

I dont do the circle thing...but I count steps....especially when mowing the yard. I could not tell you how many steps it is from any given point to another, but ill catch myself when my mind is drifting with a menail task, going 1,2,3,4, I never make it to high numbers always stop and restart before 32.... I know why i do this... but bonus points to anywho who can guess (ill post why later.)

I wont eat the last bowl of cereal from a box. (something to do with all the crumbies settling on the bottom)

I tend to be systematic about everything...and no its not OCD...its a fear that if I break order ill forget to do something

I always set the clock by my bed 23 minutes ahead...this is so I think im late when it goes off...although I know its ahead, I tried changing this once...I would like to think I didnt change it back to 23 minutes fast...but there it is ....23 minutes fast again.

For Snaffie - Im the same with tab/return when ever I type a line I do it whether its nanny yahoo whatever.....*blames AOL*

and my last is fanatic handwashing/hand sanitizers....   This is a habit really, but I wash my hands before and after everything.... I use hand sanitizers when ever im away from a sink...this is ofc Job related.... but even when im gardening I am constantly rinsing my hands with a hose.

oh and I never ever ever lick envelopes or stamps....

So I've given this a lot of thought and found that I tend to take my magazines and other purchases from further back on the shelf when the front item has obvious wear and tear.  I don't triple check my alarm, the stove or who might be hidden in my back seat.  I eat my food in no set order and have never sorted my M&M's before eating them.  Although I do wear sunglasses when walking outside, I don't typically walk with my eyes closed (unless maybe I don't have the sunglasses).  I don't count my steps and I only check the door to see that it is locked on my way to bed once.
I guess that rules me out for any OCD    Razz

I suppose there are two things that people do comment on that seem idiosyncratic:
1) In the sunlight I wear sunglasses constantly - have a mild photophobia and the sunlight is near painful in my eyes, so it's not really a quirk as much as it is a way to stay comfortable.
2) I studied psychology for years and have developed a habit of observing people and keeping a running differential diagnosis on them  Twisted Evil

Boy, have I got tons to work with now!! Thanks.
I never would have guessed that OCPD was so prevalent among mudders, although it does make sense when I think about it...

I always (well about just 99.5%) use Shift-Del when deleting.
In Unix I have a profile file I carry with me everywhere Smile and it has a rm = rm -i alias. (To ask for confirmation on deleting). In my first Unix-days I've read that somewhere that is nice to use for safety purposes. But as it is annoying I delete everything with rm -f or -rf so it won't make any difference (-f is for not asking on deletions and it overrides -i).
I do type 'save' and 'score' many many many times in Nanny. Whenever I camp in green for like a few seconds I type these commands like 2 of them per second, for some reason. I also use other commands very frequently, like sc (some other score), kview, togo, skills, kreport, xp, and whatever else guild- and skill-related command might be.
I also use to hit backspace at the Unix prompt (and in Nanny too, somewhat) when I am thinking and the line is empty (so it will beep every time). I am not sure why I do that. Also when I am, for example, posting a note here and I am thinking somewher in the middle, I use to delete and retype the last character like once-twice or more, and use ctrl-home and ctrl-end, or hit space and then backspace several times.
These are just the computer-related ones (well the common ones that I remembered now). Smile

When I am on, I am always typing l for look even when I know nothing has changed etc. Just a habit.

I also type save habitually...yes...I know as a wizard...it is useless...but back in the old days, the mantra was save early, save often. Esp back then when a crash could occur at any time. It is something I hang onto from my mortal days.

One thing I do that has been commented on is the way I eat.

I pick out one item on my plate and eat it until its gone.  Then I move on to the next item (usually the item on the left) and eat the same way always eating exactly one item at a time. And I sometimes rotate the plate between items.  This isn't something I do conciously (like sorting M&M's) its just the way I eat. And I have started mixing foods  more recently.

When I was young, I did the same thing and I always got bitched at by my mother for doing it!

I'm much better now.

Another idiosyncrazy of mine is always having my Windows in a particular order. If my Nanny window (which is my first window) is disrupted from linkdead or crash, I have to reopen all my windows in order again.

*grumble*

My mail should be first everytime. Outlook, or Lotus Notes now (grrr). But at home this doesn't apply as I just take a look at my mail sometimes, it's not open all the time; also I use yahoo mail because I still can't pay for a decent mail account (yet).
Btw I am looking forward gmail, have you heard about it? 1 gig storage, well that would be an upgrade to my 4 Mb yahoo one. Very Happy
