That would be an idea you'd need to post on, per
haps, the improvement board on Nanny Smile

Thanks Smile

I've been pondering whether to post this note here or under newbie help, but, since this is the 'suggestions' section, here i go...
As many of you know, due to a disk crash, nanny was down for a few days a couple of weeks ago. Since my cable connection had been just set up and my craving for nanny was too much to handle, I just randomly picked another mud to enter just to get the warm&fuzzy feeling  Wink
What _really_ impressed me there was the existance of a newbie line. Two kinds of players used the line: newbies, who obviously needed the assistance, and experienced players dedicated to helping the new ones get the hang of the place. Most impressing was the elders' eagerness to teach and help and the quickness in their response.
I think nanny would really use such a line. Newly created chars would be automatically joined and older, dedicated players would join offering help to those who need it.
The idea of this note came to me a couple of days ago when a poor newbie had who caught the black plague was just standing on the green saying that he needed help, but no one was heeding his words. I felt really sorry for not being able to help so I advised him to talk to someone who had a better chance of knowing what to do. It wasn't much, but it was something. And much more can be done for newbies that come to nanny.
The newbie booklet is really nice but more 'active' help is also appreciated. And it's nice to know that there's a quick way to get it other than randomly asking someone. Knights do a wonderful job helping newcomers but there are many players who enjoy helping others and this is an easy way for both the helpers and the ones that are helped to get in touch.
Ok, I can't help but notice that this note is waaaaay longer than I wanted it to be so I'll just end it here. Idea

I think that's a kick ass suggestion! I love the idea and I know some mortable personalities of mine that would love to join and help. I would code it myself but.....

/P who someday will open her area :p

I totally agree Smile Too bad I'm not able to code such a line myself, but im sure it would not be much trouble for more experienced wizzes... *points randomly towards someone that seems to create a new club first thing when he wakes up in the morning  Wink *

I like the idea of this becuase those just getting started in Nanny (note no mention of "newbie" - I hate that word) do not know who to ask

also having forced my nephew to read the newbie booklet maybe we need to give it another name - he has already destroyed his I think because he doesn't like it showing up in his inventory and I think I was the same way - getting rid of it when it would be nice to look back at it

I mean when someone less experienced asks you a question you sometimes know it is in the newbie booklet but no longer have the booklet to recall correct syntax

Lets face it there is a lot of negitive emotes to the word newbie - well there is to me anyway.

Also though there is free beer at the newbieland and beginner land pubs for levels 1 and 2 maybe some non-alcholic and food would enable fast healing as  'Newbie' (ah can't stand that word) I had very low tolerance for alcohol and wasted large amounts of time just waiting to be able to get the glass to my lips

Of all the ideas that have been proferred for helping with "beginners" (is that a better word choice for everyone?  Even if it is more to type  Smile ) I like the line the best.  I have seen this on other Muds in the past and have noticed it tends to be very helpful.  I would make a few suggestions for it, however:
1) Players may join or leave it at any time.
2) Only players over a certain level may go off line.
3) Certainly anyone caught using it to mislead beginners should be banned from it

I would be happy to be on such a line to help new players out.

As for the healing, well, that is supposed to be part of the game, healing isn't supposed to be always easy.  I certainly think the free beer is helpful to begin with, but I do agree that some non-tox items would be beneficial as well.
