Apropos of being unable to mud from work...

All of a sudden I'm unable to mud both with client and with telnet from school. I tried other uses of telnet and looks like i cant use it. Asked my local admin and we both agreed it must be because of some option in firewall, but neither he nor me knows how to fix it. Can anyone give me some suggestion? Although im pretty busy during working hrs i miss the chance of chatting with nanny friends from time to time.

OS: Windows98 on school net pcs, WindowsNT on server +1 pc with i think Windows2000? boh?

If the local admin didn't do it, then it stands to reason the next instance did (the ones you connect through).

Anyways, it's probably a matter of blocking certain ports (or all ports not used to surf the web) to block out muds, ssh etc. And as such, there's to my knowledge nothing you can do, unless you can find someone who runs a java-telnet or something that uses its own connection to connect, not just pass you through.

Java telnet as an applet? That won't work, it's just doing the same.
But you might be lucky, if you use a http proxy then you'll just need to get some terminal emulator that can use http proxy. For example, putty is a very nice one, I do use that from work.

Oki... I also have a job thing and, not having a lot of things to do, I spend most of my tim online...
Unfortunately the server only allows 2 ports, 1 for http and 1 other.
Any suggestions on what to do to be able to mud? (couldn't get putty to work   I'm not sure I'm setting up the connection properly tho)

You can set a http proxy in putty.
You can do many, I have access to a http server that allows outgoing ports 80 and 443 and I still use like Remote Desktop, VNC & all I need.

Putty can go out on port 80.

A suggestion: if you don't have a working dns server in your network (I mean one that solves internet addresses), use putty v0.54 (I believe this is the latest version). .53 tries to solve the address and it fails to connect if it can't. In .54 you can set it to leave the solving to the proxy.
