Where I work there are certain paid holidays and requirements that we work on some of those holidays but, in return, we are guaranteed the other holidays off.   Now some of these seem to be totally arbitrary for my position and not major holidays at all while some of my favorite big holidays aren't included in the list at all.  This got me to thinking about how different people favor different days, so:

What is your favorite holiday and why?  Sometimes it is hard to pick just one, but consider
which day you would most like to have off from work to do with as you please every year.

Yav, Yav... You really should come up with easier questions Smile These are hard RL questions, dammit!

Ok, I'll go for Christmas... When it's perfect, it really is perfect. Cold, dry air, a lot of snow, a Christmas tree, a fire in the fireplace... Something hot to sip... Ah, I really long for that kind of Christmas (prolly have to wait until the kids have grown up though, for some peace).

For me it's Easter. While I like Christmas and all, so many things have to be right for it to be a truly enjoyable holiday. If there's not enough snow etc it just doesn't feel right. Too much pressure as well for Christmas to be this divine holiday.

Easter on the other hand, no pressure there. It's simple, it's enjoyable and best of all it does not require any set weather conditions Smile

Right - I'll try and make them a bit easier then...  Maybe that will get some more responses out of the lurkers.

As for my favorite holiday, I'll have to go with Halloween.  It's a very flexible holiday ranging from the light fun for children to very dark horror for those so inclined.  Gives me a great opportunity to decorate and put some old skills to use for it too.

Midsummer!

Pickled herring, strawberries, spiced akvavit and dancing around phallic fertility symbols, the night never getting dark.

I have always worked as a teacher, so good holidays....BUT the rest can easily get any day free whenever they want, like together with some other holiday to make it longer...and that I cant.

I don't know - I'm required to work at least two of the holidays a year and the rest, I might get the day off, but that's it.  This year I did specifically request Halloween off.   Evil or Very Mad

Well, I get Thanksgiving and Christmas off no one would come here on those days and I enjoy the days...
The other day I would chose would be the 4th of July.. I love having chicken and potato salad and making Ice Cream and going to the pier in town in the evening to watch the wonderful Fireworks display over the harbor with the rest of the townspeople, there is a closeness among'st the people at that time which is very nice.
Love to all who read this forum

Have to go with the Halloween vote (or Samhain or whatever your verbage picks it to be) - I love the season - and it's fun to watch and sometimes experience a new take on old traditions.
