Okay, since I am feeling so spammy these days, here's a new topic. I am not sure if people will like this one...but anyway.

Have you ever cheated in Nanny? By cheating I mean client abuse, bug abuse, sharing quest info, etc. Have you ever had a char expelled from guilds/banished/demoted? Do you regret it?

Hmm.... let me start. Smile

I guess one thing I rule I have broken quite a lot is about quests. When I get stuck in quests, I ask people for what to do next. At times people have given me fairly detailed hints about what to do. On a few rare occasions I have been walked through quests. No regrets. Some quests are just annoying... and I hate being stuck on something for too long because of some small mental block. And yeah, I have given away quest info quite liberally at times if a friend asked me. I guess this is no big deal because we all know how many people really stick to rules about this...

Bug abuse... I had a sim once who abused a well-known bug in sims (learning spells that really belonged to much higher grades). He got thrown out when Gabe decided to look into the matter and threw out a whole bunch of people. Of course, quite a lot of people got away with it since they had advanced past the point where they could be caught. I also used triggers with that char to circle, but not too much. No serious regrets about this... it was just a bit embarrassing to be caught. Wink

Actually I still use triggers to circle with my current sim (who is probably retired now). It is just that I always have the window open and I disable the triggers when I leave the computer. (I am too lazy to hit my alias regularly.) I believe this is okay since Gabe once said on sim line that you can run whatever scripts so long as you are there to respond to things. Or at least that's how I chose to interpret what he said. I don't know if matters now anyway... I am not likely to play sims again. That guild has really been a very disappointing experience.

I haven't had a char banished yet, but I had a char that was wiped by someone for having a "bad" name. (Yeah, I recently mentioned that in a note on the wiz board...I am a big whiner! ) But that's about it.

Let's see who else has something to confess (and wants to).

"Hello, my name is Kherec and I'm a recovering multiplayer. It has been 10 or 11 years since my last multiplayer session ... "

Perhaps not so serious, but I did multiplay once, when I started playing Nanny (if you'd like to nitpick, yeah, I did multiplay as an admin, but that's different).

I had created Dagoth, thought simyarins were cool (telemetry of course). Rather quickly learned a certain spell that protected me from damage, as long as I stood still. Seeing all the other guilds out there I quickly made new chars, Kherec was one of the first to come after Dagoth and I saw the potential right away; I let the sim take hits while the fighter hits the monster -- Brilliant, wonder why noone else thought of this! If memory serves me right, I think the monster I started on was Morgar's paladin (the one with the white sword that was pretty good back then).

Well, Brom or Banshee, I can no longer recall which one, quite rapidly dragged my two sorry arses to prison and asked me if I knew the rules. Trembling over the keyboard I hurriedly tried to supersonic through the rules and was abashed when I realized that I had broken one of the core rules of the mud. Doh, now I knew why noone did it. The reason I got the idea to multiplay was due to the fact that Aldraahn (a friend from school who introduced me to Nanny) and I also played another mud where multiplaying was legal ... I got the rules jumbled up a bit.

Obviously I was not banished Smile

I had my top khorne banished a long time ago... It was over 10 years ago, when I was trying to catch up with Dannoc and Anthrax in khorne, and suddenly Banshee and Brom wondered if I was a second or not... At the time I didn't have any seconds registered, I didn't feel it was anyone's business Smile (Didn't actually multi-play then, though, like I did years before that.) So my khornie's answer was something like 'I am second to no one!', trying to be a bit bold... Not a good idea, especially as I was heading for other RL businesses and didn't feel like talking to those snooping high-wizards. So I quit, without much more conversation, and when I logged on again there was no big khorne left Smile

Damn I got crazy, but as always I tried to behave civil and calm about the whole mess (or something...) and I managed to persuade B&B to bring my khorne back, promising I would register my seconds... Which I did, but had to wait a pretty long time for them to actually bring my khorne to life from a backup.

LOL,

Good one for both of ya.

Those multiplayer rulings were put in back when the mud had max login of 50 mortals that was reached daily. Wink

Try to connect...no go...

Try to connect...no go...

Try to connect...no go...

Try to connect...no go...

Try to connect...finally!

Etc.

There were a couple of people...back in the day...that had a whole group just to themselves....hehe.

Then there were those like me when I started, I connected through a Gopher system and could not connect two characters at once if I tried.

Modems suck!

I remember at first when you couldn't relogin if you lost connection ... so you could get stuck with a statue and not able to login due to the limit. Happend a couple of times in attacks, that was not funny Smile

I can only remember one instance of anything close to cheating.  It was the day after Kefka's area opened and I visited it for the first time, and when I searched a place containing treasure it yielded money infinitely.  I leeched about 30k from it just to "make sure" it was a bug.

Other than that I've been good.

LOL. Good one. There was the time when Beldin and I helped to discover the bug in old Padrone's security boxes. Apparently...if you stored 1000 gold or so at a time, since 1000 was max value per item, you could retrieve the coins but the value would stay. *whistle innocently* We tested extensively to make sure that that was the problem Wink

I've tried multiplaying to get myself banished once, it didn't work Sad
I think I was online with 10 or more characters actually.. I was just ignored for it..

Other then that.. well, the simyarin bug I was part of.. was expelled from the guild with that char..

When it comes to quests the only "cheating" I've done is probably to give too extensive hints to friends..
Like... "check under the table in the kitchen".. instead of just "search in the house" or something..

I've had one char being banished because of me getting wizinfo, and when asked I ofc didn't want to
tell which wiz had given it to me.. Ended in a site ban for new chars and another character down the drain Razz
(too bad for admins I changed IP every 24h back then!)

I've mostly been a good player otherwise (I think)..

As hard as it might be to believe - I have benefitted from some less than legal behaviour.

It seems that the clubmasters of the Spammers club have awarded me extra spam points from time to time.  Now I could excuse this by pointing out that all the top 20 spammers have recieved such bonuses, but it still doesn't excuse it.

I suppose it is only fair to place blame for this right where it belongs - squarely on Snafu's shoulders....

heh.

Seriously though, I never thought the rules about quest help were able to be literally taken at face value and have perhaps been willing to give hints if I knew them.  On the other hand - I once did recieve a tell from Beldin about quest cheating when I gave someone directions to the book shop.  You know the "Buy a book of quests" quest.  Ah to be demoted for helping someone earn 1 QP.
Actually, Beldin was just kidding about demoting me for it and the player I gave directions to actually got lost because my directions ended at the door.  Apparently he just stood there for some time sending tells to multiple wizzes and players that he was lost.

LOL. Did you confuzzle someone again?

As for spam points...well...I am the club maintainer...and its a club, not a guild...and the points don't mean much...other than a few feelings Wink

I can easily take them away ya know Wink

I consider them more a reward...(quickly recodes Spamfo where Yavathol is concerned).

 Laughing
Not complaining about them - just confessing.

Not that anyone really seems to care much about a few spam points here or there.  I'm quite certain that you can't cash them in at the shop for goodies - believe me, I've tried!  Sheesh, you'd think for 1000 spam points you should at least be able to get a couple of joke items or something, you know, like an extendable tongue to lick club maintainers with from long range...

Ah, perhaps I've said too much.

Tredon,

So basically you are saying that you never did anything wrong on purpose and that if you did, it was to help people.

The title of this thread is "Confessions". The point being that people should just come forth and talk about times when they really broke rules in the past so that we can all look back and laugh about things. You probably just took it as another opportunity to brag about your "goodness". Maybe you don't have any real rule-breaking to confess about. Then just shut up. There's no need to twist the topic around for your purposes.

I think you should know that a LOT of people on Nanny did and still do all these good things that you talk about. But they don't go around writing notes about it all the time. Your notes about how "good" you are only make people sick.

What are you doing here anyway? You got your char banished because you wanted to leave. So leave already. Why are you back? To see if we care that you left? We don't.

To everyone else: Sorry about being so direct with this dumbass. But I think it is time _someone_ said this.
