I can't take a stroll through Basalt Keep without fond memories of my companions and arms and I banding together to defend all that was good and just in fair basalt keep.  Rising against hordes of villians, secretly conniving to overthrow our fair fortress.
Ok, so my memory is going a little as I age, what can I tell you.

BK attacks was one of the most enjoyable parts of Nanny, and I will always miss them.  I can't help but think fondly, not only on the attacks per se, but on the tight group of companions that were broght together for the common purpose.  There are so many from that time that I don't see enough of now - even if it is just to lift a pint and say a few toasts to those who have gone before.

Still, Garetjax and I are around enough - and I feel fairly certain that while we might never replace the likes of Pasca or Bree, we could recruit other willing participants to fight alongside us - for glory! For Justice!
For Fun!!!

Those were good times, GJ and raises the point that we should add Nasigoreng to the list of Where are they now...

The Basalt Keep attacks were great! Balance wasn't its strongest point, but it involved cooperation, teamplay, strategy and controlled NPCs. Brilliant. They were removed when Nasigoreng disappeared. There has been work on it, but I'm unsure what the current status is. Bah, it was great to be general.

Hey, maybe if the three of us pestered our GH enough, he might take it over.
Maybe then we could get back to defending the innocent.

Remember when we organized a pre-emptive strike on Molt?  The deputies got together and we spent the better part of my afternoon wailing on her and her balrog body guard.  That was the biggest party I ever had the pleasure of being in (trying to find raid a castle wasn't a pleasure  Wink ) Some of us lost our lives but it was worth it to give the citizens of Basalt Keep a respite from an attack.

After Molt fell, some of us spent about 30 minutes looking for loot/secrets in the room while burning our feet.  Nothing.  Hehe.

Question Any servants of Molt in the house?  I never crossed the line to the other side.  What were your experiences like?

Ah. I was exploring Basalt Keep and the suroundings some day ago. And stumbeled in by the sherrif. Got intruiged by the chance to guard a city from monsters. I thought there still was attacks, and that I only had to enroll, join the forces, or whatever, and wait for the right moment. But as i understand there are no more attacks anymore  Confused . Well, not shure I could have dunn much help. Pretty new (and yes, a coward. As a cult member my first priority is to study the mythos and save my ass from trouble, to be able to witness the return of Cthulhu  Wink ) But I wouldn't mind giving a hand here, poking a monster there, getting refreshments or something etc. that could be a plus for the defenders  Razz . Hmm, but maybe only knights where allowed to defend?

The nice thing about the BK attack event was that any guild could be involved.

That said though, the reward for accomplishing your goal in a BK attack was an alignment boost.  So you wouldn't see Monks or Knights joining the servants, nor would you see Darks or Cultists joining the Deputies.  I've seen druids, khorne and other guilds on both sides.

Plus if I remember correctly, neither Molt nor Owen Swordid accepted your help if you were of opposing alignment. (And boy was Molt cranky if you messed up asking for permission)

Particapating in your first BK attack can be a daunting experience.  I remember being really confused and was just told to party follow and attack any fire elementals we ran by.  I forget if you could get access to the help files if you have never particapated in one attack which makes the learning curve that much steeper.

A helpful monk, named Blin, did write a book covering defending Basalt Keep and is still available in the Monk's Library if you want to get a little flavor of what the BK attacks were like.  (if you have a monk that is)

In my years as a Cultist (before I saw the light of Lars and join the Monks) I was persuaded by Bombadill to join the BK attacks. I also remember something about not getting the help files before you actually had been participating in one attack (I can be wrong, after all it is some time ago) and the temper of Molt if you by accident did not title him correctly *eep*

In my first attacks I was really frustrated. Getting those fire elements to move and grow in the right places were not an easy task; they just didn’t listen to me, and to be truthful I was not always sure where I was taken them either Razz  .But with almost constant lack of sanity it was always fun to play with and talk to fire and see it burn things, Twisted Evil  in fact it is quite shocking what a mad person can find joy in doing.*shiver*

Ah yeah. Those Basalt attacks were the thing, alright.

I'm not sure which side was more fun. I used to play both from time to time *ducks*. I remember some wonderfully frantic defences in the Temple, but I also remember the satisfaction of winning against a much larger number of Deputies. I guess both sides had their merits.

I do remember fighting as a Deputy with Vehement a couple of times, when I was CtL. It was ridiculously impractical - fire-based enemies and no healing, anyone? - but fun anyway. Go citizens go!

I can't get my mind off BK attacks lately so I thought I'd post the images that sticks in my mind the most. (thanks to vehement's post for the reminder)

I remember some wonderfully frantic defences in the Temple

You're in the Chef's roadhouse, gulping down the food as fast as you can so you can return to defend the Basalt Keep.  Suddenly you hear the Deputy Captain call out, "The Eastern Gate has been breached!"  You drop the plate and make a mad dash back to BK.

Upon arriving at the remains of the east gate, you recoil from the heat eminating from the 2 infernos licking away at the defending citizen and her protecting defenders.  You stand over the ashes of a fallen citizen as you try to keep the elementals at bay.  A deputy monk arrives to heal the citizen but its too late, she succumbs to the fire.  The elementals take the oppurtunity to rush inside the city and the call is made to defend the temple.

All deputies and surviving citizens rush to the temple and await the coming conflagaration.  The monk sanctifies the room and begins chanting over the wounded.  The temple reflects the red glow of the elementals as they pour in.  The deputies stand their ground as the citizens try to douse the fires with their buckets.  The servants of Molt enter and begin to kill the citizens, the darkness eminating from the Dark falls over the temple.  Some of the deputies are forced to leave the temple to heal their injuries.  The temple begins to burn.  If only the temple could hold out for a few more minutes...

The last citizen falls dead and more elementals pours in as the last remaining deputy desparately tries to kill them.  Just as the last deputy is forced out of the temple, the other deputies return.  A knight jumps in to defend the badly hurt deputy and the defense is renewed.  Then all the commotion comes to a stop.  It takes a few seconds to realize that Moltentear has stopped rumbling, the assault is over.  The Dark leaves the room in silence and light once agains enter the temple.  The temple is charred and blackened, many citizens gave their life this day to defend it.  But the deputies smile as they see that the fountain is still standing, flowing with clean water.  The smiles turn to cheers as they realize that the day is won and Basalt Keep still stands.  After the celebration, the monk begins in earnest to start the repairs of the temple and the gates, for we all know that Molt still waits for the fall of the Basalt Keep...
