Just a question about an area I don't enter often, but that i used to haunt as a newbie...
You know the system of caves inhabited by ogres sw of green? 4 w, some s, w, more s, down in the ravine and more southwards following the ravine are the dirs as i remember them... In these caves there is a room hidden behind a fake wall or something like that, in which there is a chest -if i remember well- without any key and with runes on the lid. OK, does anyone know how to open it?
As a newbie i used to say to myself "one day I'll be able to solve this" but now, years have passed and still no solution. It is frustrating Sad But now I know it may be an unfinished work as well. So if you know, help me solve this dilemma Smile

When I'm beginning to think I'm stumped due to an unfinished area, I usually do a 'bug' or 'idea' and hope for some response. Did you do that? Other than that I only vaguely remember that fake wall and chest, but I'll probably check it out again (as will some others I assume).

No, I didnt Wink I dont want to report it as a bug when i am unable to find a solution, since i dont want to look too stupid Razz
I do that only if I am familiar with the creator, in that case i actually overflow his/her log with ideas Smile *fear me * Razz

That chest is a part of the "Slay lag" quest by Randalar.

Cool, didn't know, but then I never DID Slay Lag (*blush*), but I will, some day! (Helped someone else with the last (but one?) kill over ten years ago though.)

It's been recoded since then anyways, so even if you did it 10 years ago, the chest would probably not be in the quest (never did it before recode, it might have been there, but when we did the recoded quest it was so filled with bugs and strange things that we assumed it was totally recoded)

To restore some of Wrath's glory from the recall-abuse thingie, we solved it for him first Wink
How I know he was the first after recode, is because it was totally unsolvable until we got a few bugs fixed, and we did it just after the bugs were fixed Wink

Interesting coincidence that you should bring this up. I've practically been living in the Ogre Cave for the past several days. I also found the hidden room... which got me started looking for the key... which led to finding Randalar's Drow City... where the Drow's promptly made me 'quit' for fear of dying - losing about 3Kgc worth of loot as well as all my armour I had borrowed from the Druid chest. Aaarrrghh!!!

Oh... also ran into Bandor the dwarf somewhere in there.

If you think drows are bad, stay away from Bandor, he packs quite a punch Smile

Malan, you can ask a knight (for instance) to help you recover your loot or armour when you fear dying. You may have to lead the way sometimes, though...that ruin of the drows is not one of the most popular places, I think.

That's good advice - thank you! Smile

I've noticed that monsters and other items seem to re-spawn relatively quickly. How long will the loot/armour stay there?

Monsters and similar respawn in about 1 hr, but to make stuff lying on floor disappear, you need entire room to reset, which can not happen for days or even weeks... Uniques and other stuff however can be so created that they disappear pretty quick.
So if you have to quit in a hurry, you can count on finding your eq again most of the times...
Actually in some cases, the quitting/reentering/wearing eq back/continue killing can be a solution to get some tough and dangerous monsters for most guilds. Smile

I just checked my notes, and last time I got to that chest I actually CAME from Randalar's area, didn't remember that... So I probably at the time had my suspicions about that chest and Slay Lag Smile

I think this answers a question I just had as I was reading this LPC document about how often the reset() and init() functions are called.

Wow, I hadn't thought of that... that's very interesting. Thanks!

I found Drow City 'accidently' via the Ogre cave because of the Driders (they wouldn't let me go back in the direction I came from). I just found Randalar's area last night (4w,3n,nw) but haven't explored it yet Smile

Thanks to everyone for the excellent tips Smile
