Player Killing - what happened?

Very bad idea.
People should lose so they just have to stay online and try to advance... it is possible to advance back if you get killed, it just might be a bit harder and slower than as a non-pk. If you really don't want to fight you just camp or log off, otherwise I liked when people just went after their kills or whatever because it made hunting possible. Now there's no such thing anymore. I never was a good and experienced pk, didn't pked that much but still I did start to like it at some point.

Too bad I don't really have logs of pk fights. There were a few funny/unusual kills/deaths (mostly)... for example those 1 hb deaths, at low age; max life -> dead. Oops. Froze for a moment, then.. eh well... damn.. not again.. how the hell he managed to find me. Or, damn, I could've just wait until they quit but no, I had to kill those rats like NOW.
Or when Crowe casted that Brom's spell, that hurts you when you walk - forgot the name - (was at first when it took 5 hp for each movement) exactly a few ms's (seemed to me) earlier than I just pressed enter for going back to guild (lepers) and I died in the ferry.
Or, as a mid-age, I fell in a very lame trap; attacked someone on green, then a monk came who started to heal him and 4 others who attacked me (one a same age vamp who dominated and also killed me). Well it was a bit too quick for me.
We made a party to kill Ond once... he rocked, kinda already and he had 0 deaths. He already killed one or two of us so we wanted revenge, by any means. He was prolly drunk or something to fight 3 lepers (we were pretty lame, but still). We were so proud we made his first pkdeath. Heh... pk can be cruel sometimes, and it is usually 'not fair'
I did have my enemies, there were two people I wanted to kill, like always. People, not char (I mean ofc in Nanny only, but I mean I hated their every pk chars). I never managed to kill Khelben, for example. Tried a few times. I am not sure wether he got me or not, probably yes.
Another memory is connected to another player, damn I was so pissed off when getting my first pk death from him, my long hated enemy, with a broken connection in village green. It's just when you curse "BUT IT'S NOT FUCKING FAIR, GOD DAMN!!!"
but all this had its charm I guess.
I always feared darks. And vamps, or at least some time back, in the hard-pk system. Now they are kinda next to harmless...

Heh, I get pissed when I die and ofc never keep logs of such things.
I do remember a couple of "fun" deaths tho.
One was with Leane. Somehow I thought I went to the adventurers guild, when I did infact walk 2e,s (not a very safe room), and then I happily went AFK. When I returned later I was of course in Ghost form.
The other was with some leper, not sure which really. Anyway I fought a sim, who had a big nasty Dark backup. Anyway, the sim casted some BS spell which made you take twice the damage from attacks or something, (It was later removed), anyway, the dark had DS eq and I think I died from one wheel with 170 hp or so.
I remember another one now btw... My pk-dark and some flappy simyarin taking on 3 plms. I had had a full heal from Morgar's tower memorized, so I had some hopes of surviving the encounter. However after beating down one of them to some really low shape, (and he was leg-powered as well), I was loaded with rots ofc, and when at < 30 hp or so I thought it was time to use the heal, but then I have this stupid wand of healing in my inv, which uses the same syntax as the full heal... so instead of that I got a 20/20 heal, and the next moment I was dead, and to top things off the flappy simyarin got MY kill.

There was some spell like greater pain or something... also leg power was pretty sux in pk (as you were also able to cast it as non-pk). Quitted with leg power on me a couple of times.

Ah, Carrion, I had lots and lots of those believe me. :p just don't really have pk logs. They tend to grow, and perhaps I'll have logs like 1-2 MB and without a kill.. annoying... just lately (last like 2 years) I started to log everything (unless I forget ofc). But I wasn't very active in the last 2 years anyway.
For this death, I was just optimistic, hoped perhaps he dies first. And then all happened too quickly. Not all of us have like 10-20 ms to Nanny...

I understand that there is the possibility to make the decision permanent, but I don't know anyone who has taken that option.
There are people who did that. But still, it doesn't mean much just disadvantage to them over the other, 'I'm toughest try to kill me now' players.
One thing I don't like now that everyone who is pking is pretty much maxed. Some while ago the diversity of levels/guild levels made also pk more interesting. You could see like a low leper or vamp or something that tried to be useful in a crowd fight, or just trying to have the kill (sometimes even succesfully). It made things more interesting... like that player xxx died yesterday so even that hes pretty tough he'll prolly not hunt me, or if yes he sucks kinda so I have more chances against him, etc. You could've calculate these things, also you knew like all the active pk chars... it happened pretty rarely that someone became pk.. it was many times used as a surprise-element. But as it happened so rarely it prolly wasn't considered as something that has to be 'fixed'. Anyway it was a pretty harsh life but that was the point.

Yeah, exactly! That was the point, as well as what brought glory to those who did it well. Heh, Isn't it funny that the issue didn't even come up in Greatest Players? If you want to see someone who really knows the game... look at the PKers that everyone is scared of, because they are doing something a little different and have a good idea of what they are doing. It might have been the one area of the game that couldn't simply be mastered with time and determination - heh, maybe that's the real reason the system was changed.

The Plaza is a large area within the Citadel where most city life is
centered. The citadel has become a flourishing center of commerce,
highlighted by the large and permanent bazaar which has become part of the
scenery here as merchants set up their wagons and stalls. To the north is a
shop with a large gayly painted sign and west is another one, a little more
modest.
There are five obvious exits: west, east, north, south and southeast.

This note was intended on being posted on a board in nanny. But I was doubtfull if it was any poit in doing that. Well, later on I happened to mention it to some old pk'er that really wanted to read it. More time passed and I forgot all abut it. Today I was bored and I hapened to remember it again, so here it is.
Hi. I thought of becoming a pk for a while but reconcidered not to, because if I made myself a pk at this level i would probably make myself a sitting duck to the highleveled pkâs running around. And there doesnât seem to be many of those, rather it seems like there are a few very strong chars around at the top I wouldnât be able to beat in my dreams even. Those thinking of becoming pkâs probably think the same way I think, make my char insanely strong, then, and first then I might think about becoming a pk.
I canât have any problem with this, offcourse everybody should be allowed to make their char as strong as possible. But this can be a problem that has similaritys whith, what I learned today, is supposed to be a wellknown philosophical problem. That the behaviour of individuals, although reasonable, might end up with hurting themselfes. Like in this case, everybody thinking about their own survival and making their pk chars as though as possible, may result or may allready resulted in a group of strong players, sort of a group untouchables nobody has a chanse against. This in itself might make all that though work to get almost unbeatable, almost useless. Cause when this spreads around and when people notice itâs like this, people wonât even try to beome pkâs. Since they know they wouldnât stand a chance anyway. So then there wouldnât be any players to kill for those highleveles pkâs anymore except eachothers and the occasional newbie that doesenât know better every once or twice a month.
I heard similar things happen to other games, not only mudâs. After a while people avoid it, the game doesnât get any new members as much as before, because people know the game has lasted long enough to grow an âeliteâ, and they feel they got no chance as newbies in that world. You canât kill, you can only get killed they think and therefore donât even bother entering the game. Offcourse, in Nanny you donât have to become a pk, which is a good thing. But what if you want to, i bet it would be more fun for you and others if there was, not only more pkâs, but also with different kinds of levels, ranging all the way from level 1 to paragons. This way as a lowlevel char, you wouldnât just feel like a sitting duck, waiting for the paragons to pray on you, you might actually find someone weaker then you to kill.
Like in a book I read, a solution to such a problem can only come from a stronger force (doh) then the ones responsible for this problem. In this case the ones that run the game. They could make it worth being a pk, even for lowlevel chars in one way or another. Forinstance, killing an equally strong player would give much more exp then killing a much weaker. Making it kind of worthless killing every poor newbie that comes a long. I guess something like this is the case allready.
Then I have an even better suggestion, although it might not be possible to make, I think Iâll make a shot at it and tell you anyway. Make the risk being pk enough worth wile that more people will become such in hope to advance faster. You could as an example get 30-25% extra exp. for every monster you kill while being pk. This solution would also have a nice side effect. Low level players would spread around in the world, and it would get more decentralized from Lars Town where they probably would get killed easier. And for advanced high level pkâs it would probably make the hunt for the weaker more fun to. Offcourse the paragon pkâs would also get the extra 30-25% for their kills, making it no easyer to catch up to them, if they go on advancing as they use to. And for the non pkâs complaining about the pkâs advancing to fast: Hey, you can also risk it and advance as fast as they do.
Ok, donât hesitate to reply to this note, wether you think itâs good, or worthless junk. I must admit, I donât know much about pk, but maybe I make some sence? And hey, at least thereâs a new note on this board to read while healing.
