As if I'd believe someone telling me that I would die on some given day :p
But ok, next to thinking of some tricks like knowing I'd be immortal until that day, I'd rather not know.

The only two addictions I have now are Orkfia and Nanny. I do like a lot of things, but I can't call those an addiction. For now I don't want to quit either, else I simply would.

As long as it's beautiful, sunny, comfortable, and next to the sea, I'm fine.
There are lots of places I can think of.

8  NannyMUD / Daily Rant / RL matters - Where do you live? (poll) on: April 20, 2004, 08:00:30 AM
Hoi,

Alright, here goes, briefly: I'm 27 now, from 1976 as well, and I was 18 when I started playing Nanny. I'm Dutch, living in Hoorn which is about 35 km above Amsterdam. I can call myself an IT'er as well, but I also studied psychology. Aaand, you can find pictures under my wizard Mirage if you want Smile

Valdor.
9  NannyMUD / Wishes and Thoughts... / Items quality on: April 16, 2004, 05:40:44 AM
I agree with Wolfenhex. Most players stick with what they know and are too lazy to take the time to find new good items. They know what's good and what's not because they hear it from other players. Which completes the circle.

But, there's a whole nannyworld out there filled with very good uniques that most players don't know about. Lots of times I offered such uniques on the trade line and I could hear people think: "Hmm, those are not the words 'silk gloves'...don't know...won't buy."

Those who like the background stories are usually also the ones who explore and take the trouble to find these items. The lazy players might hear rumours, and will ask dirs to this new good unique. If it's not too difficult, like when it needs exploring and stuff, the item might become popular.
10  NannyMUD / Nostalgia / Basalt Keep Attacks on: April 08, 2004, 03:49:46 PM
The Basalt Keep attacks were great! Balance wasn't its strongest point, but it involved cooperation, teamplay, strategy and controlled NPCs. Brilliant. They were removed when Nasigoreng disappeared. There has been work on it, but I'm unsure what the current status is. Bah, it was great to be general.
11  NannyMUD / Nostalgia / Your First Day on: April 08, 2004, 03:24:30 PM
I got introduced to Nanny by a classmade at the end of 1995. I was familiar with some text adventures from the old days, so I knew how it worked a bit, except that I found it really impressive to be playing the same game as 80 other people from around the world. So I logged on, chose the name Valdor...and I got lost. So I logged in again...and I got lost. I also remember that I found it scary to stand at green when so many people were passing by.

My classmate then told me where Anvil's newbie world was and I memorized the dirs. From then on, I knew church, green, the shop, and anvil's newbie world. I solved several puzzles there, fought fierce rabbits, and gained levels. I never got any coins and never asked anyone for them. (This didn't happen all on that first day though, on that first day I just got lost).
