1  NannyMUD / Suggestions / Best suggestion EVAR! on: June 22, 2007, 04:10:04 PM
Get your silly cans back on this forum and start talking!

I have another suggestion (I'm full of it.....them)

Find a way for me to access NannyMUD without telnetting or java applications. (Wishful thinking).

2  NannyMUD / Wishes and Thoughts... / Re: PK scene on: June 22, 2007, 04:03:11 PM
Well since no one has replied for over three years, its safe for me to post since I won't be made fun of.

Personally, I don't think there should be a 'soft pk' area to encourage players to pk. If someone wants to pk they take the risk and do it. The only time I ever regretting pking was when I was tricked into doing it when I first started the mud. Pking is a thrill, and takes trial and error to be somewhat decent at it. The reason a lot of people aren't pking anymore is because the ones around now have never had the interest, or have tried and didn't like it for some reason. When I made my first leper to PLM and decided to pk it was because I was intrigued and I knew what I was getting into....endlessly hunted watch your steps and the 'who' list every minute, watch the pk club to see if any members or non members have signed on. One thing I have never done though is bitch about being a playerkiller because I made the choice its something I wanted to experience.

If a noob decides to pk and gets hunted, depending on how the person is behind the keyboard is how they will react to the monster that is playerkilling. It makes is all worth it when you finally catch someone slipping and get a kill of your own. Creating areas for people to be comfortable playerkilling without losing stats or whatnot is counter productive because then they'll probably bitch and moan when they experience their first death.

I like the current system. Not having to lose stats and experience is well worth anyone trying it out, of course its permanent though so no going back. I would give up 50k and my eq to save hours spending trying to get a paragon level back. I know old pkers don't like it, but its better than having an option to only go pk for a week or so and then get your angel back.

The reward for anyone playerkilling is the kill itself. There is no point to soften a system designed to hunt and kill other players because then it takes away from the actual purpose of putting your neck on the line and seeing what happens. You win you lose you live you die but you learn from your mistakes.

I can't play from work anymore! I can't get on any forums at work anymore! Well, except this one which is suprising.

Whats been new with Nanny? Any exciting banishments while I've been away? Any PKers wake up and actually play? I can't even connect via Java Sad

Here is my opinion, since I usually check this only when I hear someone mention it on the actual game.

I've read all the talk about newbies, the bitching and chest beating about who has been here longer, who knows what etc...who cares?

NannyMUD is dying because only dedicated players choose to sit down in front of the computer and play a TEXT BASED GAME for a couple hours. Now, I stress the text based game because I'm sure everyone knows graphic games are a hell of a lot more fun, if you're into that. We have lost tons of great players to shitty games like EverQuest, World of Warcraft, and so on. Thats the simple fact. And the very few newbies we do get on there, are probably getting bored with it anyway. NannyMUD was the easiest and best mud I could find back when I first started. Think of it like an old arcade you use to go to.

Speaking of newbies, I personally don't help them anymore. I don't mind answering questions, but I don't party. From my experience, newbies come and go all the time. They always have and always will. Its the very few that decide to take the time and get to know the game are the ones that stay for awhile. I'm tired of helping new players only to see them stop playing.

With all that said, I hope NannyMUD will continue to the time I have kids and I get a lot older and settle down. Its was once a great community, and it still is. Just because the numbers are down doesn't mean the charm of it has diminished.

5  NannyMUD / Nostalgia / Other memories... on: March 01, 2006, 01:16:36 PM
Lets see, its been almost 2 years since the last post in the thread but I figured I might as well post since I'm bored at work and enjoying everyone elses memories.

The first mud I ever played, was from an online service called NovaLINK. It had your typical AOL type charges back then, when you were paying out the arse for every hour you were online. They had two different muds, one was an adult themed mud where you could gamble and dress up your character, and the other was a mud similar to NannyMUD.

Thats where I met my first online girlfriend! She was about 27 and I think I was 15 at the time, lying about my real age. Whats funny is we actually spoke on the phone and I still played it off pretty well.

After my Mom cancelled the subscription because I was always on it, I was introduced to the wonderful world of freenet. The first free access I had online was from S.E.F.L.I.N. where you would have 45 minutes to do whatever in their BBS system, and then get disconnected and have to dial in and wait through busy signals.

Thats when I found out you can telnet outside of the SEFLIN computer, which was a whole new world to me. Started talking on IRC where I was a moderator (was so cool back then) for a server or some called us "dragons".

Then, I happened to telnet to a computer in Sweden, and not understanding any of the language I managed to figure out how to get to games, then found NannyMUD and BatMUD.

So, I started playing Nannymud, and was helped out by a few. I remember being "persuaded" to go pk which I had no clue what it was, and then some damn druid killed me outside the ship near the south coast.

It was a confusing world back then, and after a couple of breaks in between I still can't see myself not playing NannyMUD.

And with what Ladychris posted years ago, people wondered how she learned how to type so fast. It was always a process to explain to them you were playing a game.
