Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: poogie on April 28, 2004, 05:59:01 PM Yavathol really wanted me to ask this question so here it is:
What music do you listen to when you MUD? Do you have certain types for certain times like Wagner for knight attacks? Tell us about your MUD "soundtrack". :D /P Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Snafu on April 28, 2004, 07:01:29 PM If I'm fighting...um...hmm...do I play? Since I don't play much anymore, I will post the one song that is perfect for killing with, even though it didn't exist when I did play ;)
Drowning Pool - Bodies! Perfect song for playing Unreal Tournament too! /Snafu :D Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: iznogoud on April 28, 2004, 07:01:55 PM I usually listen to some kind of fantasy/medieval inspired music..
Stuff like.. Nightwish, Blind Guardian.. But I also like listening to Hel, Ultima Thule and/or Hammerfall.. None of these are at no special occassion, its just the normal playlist I load when I login to nanny... /iznogoud Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Labyrinth on April 28, 2004, 07:05:39 PM Sometimes I like to play the Terminator theme music--especially when I'm killing
or else the Kill Bill theme music... Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: garetjax on April 28, 2004, 07:55:45 PM On my old system I had a sound trigger whenever a knight attack was announced. Everytime I was called to defend Camelot, my pulse quickened as I jammed to the Mortal Kombat Soundtrack.
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Oasis on April 28, 2004, 08:53:19 PM The only time I ever listened to music while mudding was in college in 1994. I'd listen to up-tempo stuff like Greenday and Nirvana. I'm sure all the people in the computer lab appreciated my musical choice :P
Oasis Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Snafu on April 28, 2004, 10:18:08 PM I think Indiana Jones theme would be good exploring music.
/Snafu :D Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Yberiel on April 29, 2004, 01:22:56 AM This one was so much more easier to answer than the last one. When I MUD I listen to:
Nightwish (of course  ) Hel Helloween (another favourite band of mine) Blind Guardian (not so much though) Rhapsody (not so much either, but now and then.) Epica/After forever Within Temptation Avantasia part 1 and 2 Aina Ybbie.. Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Carrion on April 29, 2004, 01:32:26 AM Holy Cow, here I really seem to be the odd one out... I don't listen to any music whatsoever when I MUD... Well, perhaps if the radio is on... Yesterday, though, I actually listened to some OLDIES online channel, does that count?
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: ladychris on April 29, 2004, 01:48:26 AM I started mudding from school lab, where music was out of discussion, so i never got used to listening anything while mudding. So, Carrion if there are odd guys around, there are at least two of them :)
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Carrion on April 29, 2004, 02:34:17 AM Quote from: ladychris I started mudding from school lab, where music was out of discussion, so i never got used to listening anything while mudding. So, Carrion if there are odd guys around, there are at least two of them :) Heh, it was bad enough that you sat in the lab and laughed at Gatelord's remarks... People looked a bit strangely at you ;) All reminds me of what dorks we are (MUDers). But we have some fun, don't we :)Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Dain on April 29, 2004, 07:03:31 AM well since i don't care what other think about my music i listen everything i want while i mud. usually that is metal ... bands aren't that important.
knight attack usually goes with Iced Earth - The Dark Saga LP and some good ol' Metallica like For whom the bells toll, Seek and Destroy, Wherever I may roam. .... sigh attack over already. Title: theme song from the druid tree Post by: Ahriah on April 29, 2004, 08:11:01 AM I almost always listen soundtracks when mudding if I listen at all. I have about 5 that I put on random and go through that are my favorite....
I dont care for words while Im on nanny, because I tend to get caught up in the music and want to spam people with lyrics *teehee* Braveheart (my personal favorite) Gladiator Gods and Generals LOTR 1486 Just a few, I dont have knight attacks though sometimes even as a druid I get immense joy from power playing and getting my adrenaline going. and sometimes when things are slow ill slip my Sting or Enya CDs in :D Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Vehement on April 29, 2004, 09:13:16 AM Can't say there is any music which is typical. I could be listening to anything.
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: romichete on April 29, 2004, 10:39:31 AM Hmm, Hip Hop, Drum 'n' Bass, Turntablism and sometimes a bit of rock
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Nilram on April 29, 2004, 12:02:04 PM I rarely listen to music when I mud anymore.
However anyone who knew me when I started mudding can tell you exaclty what I litened to.... my Beatles collection. They know of course because I would allways sing along on the Guild line. In fact I still have the alias dsing dr #sings: although it was originally dsing dr %sings: Many druids would actually join in and sing along with the songs. And if Con/Leppo was on it would start a discussion about Beatles Trivia. Con actually once commented that Frank Sinatra had said "Something" was the greatest love song ever written. Which got a poor response from Mouser a Patsy Cline fan. Those were the days. (Perhaps this should be posted to the nastalgia board?) Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Longstrider on April 29, 2004, 01:25:59 PM I don't - I either mud at work or try to enjoy some much needed peace and quiet when I mud after my 3 year old goes to bed.
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Dissectica on April 29, 2004, 02:44:59 PM Well, I listen to a lot of different music when Im in Nanny, and I don´t really have a particular band that goes along with which guild I choose to play in or kind of like that. There is of course A LOT of Gamma Ray but also very much Sonata Arctica, Helloween (only the old of course), Edguy, Dissection, Astriaal, Iced Earth and Sirius.
There is one song though, that often comes up when mudding and that it Progenies Of The Greate Apocalypse with Dimmu Borgir. Don´t know why though...but it has become kind of like my Nannymudsong or something by now  Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: poogie on April 29, 2004, 05:17:46 PM I've never really been in a place where I can constantly listen to music while I MUD. Either the computer lab, the small little computer room in the dorms or here where I have to use headphones to listen to any music but I have done it from time to time.
When preparing for a knight attack I listened to the Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack. I also have a mix of music on my playlist that pumps me up and energizes me. Normally it has to be stuff I could sing loudly to and certainly do lip sync to. Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20. Heck, check out the list from yesterday and there's a good start. :D /P I do love the Lord of the Rings soundtracks too for when I'm in a mellow mood. Title: Mud soundtrack Post by: Yavathol on April 29, 2004, 05:44:43 PM Since I seem to have started this particular line of interrogation, I suppose I should at least make an attempt to answer the question myself.
A lot of what I listen to will be decided either by the mood I am in, and hence the environment I wish to maintain, or the mood the Mud is putting me in on that particular day (all my friends should fear when I have Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend" on repeat). I do have a standard fare of soundtracks that are semi-generic but excellent for Mudding to: Gladiator Braveheart Princess Bride LoTR Quills Raiders of the Lost Ark to name a few... For the more upbeat happy music I use during especially joyful spammy times, then perhaps the likses of: Oingo Boingo Squeeze Fishbone RHCP For times when I am working of my frustrations: Megadeath Everclear Pearl Jam Live Evanescence Nirvana And then there is what was my staple for Basalt Keep attacks: Stroke 9 - Nasty Little Thoughts track:Little Black Backpack "don't wanna talk about it I say why not? don't wanna think about it I say there's got to be some good reason for your little black backpack up, smack, turn around he's on his back and don't wanna tango with you i'd rather tangle with him i think i'm gonna bash his head in and this shouldn't concern you except that just don't expect to get your bloody black backpack back!" Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Moonchild on April 29, 2004, 10:05:42 PM When mudding, I'm most likely to be listening to whatever I've downloaded recently and need to make sure actually plays properly. :)
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Kherec on April 30, 2004, 02:07:21 AM There are a few things I sometimes put on, given special occations ... but otherwise I'm listening to whatever I feel like listening to that day.
Anyways, every now and then I do play a special song pending on what I do, Exploring: Theme song for Morrowind. Defending Camelot: Intergalactic by Beastie Boys. Powerplaying: Garbage ... usually Version 2.0. Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: lillstrumpa on April 30, 2004, 10:20:15 AM piaff is great for coding and studying. :)
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Snafu on April 30, 2004, 03:27:58 PM Quote from: Kherec Exploring: Theme song for Morrowind. Now that sounds like a good idea too! /Snafu :D Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Yavathol on April 30, 2004, 06:12:32 PM Quote from: Kherec Exploring: Theme song for Morrowind. I can so relate to this. For a while I considered just running the opening credits to Morrowind in the background - one of the best soundtracks for Mudding, I'll have to try and just get the music directly to CD. Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Prime on May 01, 2004, 01:35:17 PM I don't actually play on Nanny.
I spam a lot. I listen to piano music pretty frequently. Or jazzy, upbeat, dancing songs! That way, my mind thinks we're doing something exciting and fun! Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Qwer on May 01, 2004, 09:57:48 PM Depends, most of the time I just forgot to load some music.
But usually the actual preference(s).. this is Nightwish at the moment.. but I just got some Rammstein too from someone, today I was listening to that... no special preferences based on race, gender, guild, or whatever. Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Allyene on May 01, 2004, 10:19:56 PM Not by any means a complete review of what music I enjoy, but this might come out of my stereo while mudding.
Dissection Sirius Nightwish (Might have over-listened a bit here, but I guess thats a good sign) Manowar! Burzum (Actually, just one song really, called dunkelheit, it works in duels, usually. ) Windir Gamma Ray (Lots of goodies here, but Man on a mission and Damn the machine makes me *shiver* ) Cradle of filth Blind Guardian Iced Earth Immortal Dark Funeral Satyricon Sirenia G&R Alice Cooper SkidRow Dio Iron Maiden Metallica Epica Deathstars The Kovenant Blackmore's night Theatre of Tragedy Sonata Arctica Avantasia Falconer Some soundtracks that are good for mudding! Crimson Tide Conan the Barbarian (Great fantasy feeling here!) Conan the Destroyer The hunt for Red October The 13th Warrior Gladiator Reservoir dogs Pulp Fiction The Rock Raiders of the lost arc Temple of Doom Natural Born Killers The killing fields (Excellent movie, weak soundtrack except for this one song called "Etude") Aliens Probably forgotten tons but this is something anyway Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Sharky on May 02, 2004, 05:29:53 AM I don't have a special music for playing MUD. I just listen to what I feel like. Here are some of the bands:
Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Blind Guardian, Manowar, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Nightwish, Evanescence, Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Hammerfall, Therion, Rhapsody, Depeche Mode, Queen, Demons&Wizards, Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Lake of Tears, Metallica, Nirvana, some REM, Scorpions, Vangelis, Black Sabbath, Haggard, T-Rex and some others I'm sure I forgot :D Ofc, I _must_ mension Phoenix and Cargo (the romanians out there know what I mean :) ). Try "Pasarea Roc...k and roll" during the attacks. It was one of my favourites when I was a knight. Mental Note: I just HAVE to get the sound theme from Morrowind! Thx Kherec! Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Titleist on May 04, 2004, 07:38:30 AM My Dying Bride is always good for mudding. Of course, MDB is good for *all* occasions.
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Dain on May 04, 2004, 09:41:31 AM actually i don't think there is a thing MDB isn't good for. :)
Title: 29 April 2004 Post by: Cogliostro on May 06, 2004, 03:50:08 PM In the 'old' days (before my big 2 year or something pause from MUD) my friend Sharky used to listen to Metallica - One a lot and I didn't really like Metallica back then but when i took up MUD again this song was like sooooo nice... it reminded me of the days a lot of my friends played.
My Dying Bride works _really_ well with MUD (especially the whore, the cook and the mother). Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy Six Feet Under - Sweet Leaf Duran Duran - Come Undone Tears for Fears - Shout Depeche Mode Prodigy Black Sabbath a bit of Led Zeppelin Nirvana a bit of Portishead a lot of Radiohead Daft Punk REM Chemical Brothers Apollo 440 Antiloop Cardigans Cranberries a bit of HIM Sepultura some Apocalyptica some Coldplay a little Lenny Kravitz Guano Apes Queen Moby Iron Maiden Tasmin Archer |
