Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Snafu on April 11, 2004, 09:47:01 AM This is a list of Guilds.
Doomed - Originally coded by Dz, later picked up by Bive and Viper Original Knights - Originally coded by Celeborn and Milamber Nightblades - Originally coded by Charmangle, not sure if they actually went live Damned - Originally coded by Ramses, then later taken care of by Plaque and Radagim Mages - Originally coded by Ppannion with help from Emerald and Joachim Original Monks - Originally coded by Ingis (brought back by Rohan and Anna) Musicians - Originally coded by Beatmaster Agnostics - Originally coded by Badman Chaos - Originally coded by Cabal Dragons - Originally coded by Jaso Dragon Hunters - Originally coded by Blanka Drunks - Originally coded by Klingie and Tsc with help from Bert Prophets - Originally coded by Profezzorn Runed - Originally coded by Newt Kittens - Originally coded by Lysander Hunters - Originally coded by Vincent Arcane Investigators - Originally coded by Zander Cult of EVIL - Originally coded by Jaf This list is not necessarily complete and is correct to the best of my knowledge. Some of them, I did not have the opportunity to see in action. If anyone wants what I know of any of them, ask away. If there is enough interest, I might be persuaded to do the same with a list of Clubs. /Snafu :D Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Kherec on April 11, 2004, 12:39:30 PM The funkiest idea I ever saw was ... erm, Iceblink and Kiki's? Some guild that could take anything and throw it at people, wildly and violently! ;)
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: sUiko-den on April 11, 2004, 12:43:26 PM how come these guild dont exist anymore?
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Carrion on April 11, 2004, 02:41:20 PM Nice one, Snafu!
I'm almost surprised you knew about Musicians' Guild :) Didn't see any other musicians than me and my friends ever on. Loved Beatmaster's area, easy FULL healing potions, pretty nifty weapons (put that bender in the lute), good XP kills, fun (not that medieval though). And the spell of vibration rocked more than I knew when I could use it, think it was about 20% off from initial HP, WITHOUT STARTING A FIGHT! Not to mention the source code which wasn't protected *cough cough*. I really would play as a Musician again (pun not intended), and also as an investigator, that was fun too! Title: Old Guilds... Post by: Snafu on April 11, 2004, 04:28:54 PM Thanks Carrion!
As for sUiko-den's questions...lemme see... Doomed - Not sure why it closed. I remember it vaguely when I first started playing. Original Knights - Still around but heavily recoded from what it was. Who rememebrs Berserk?!? ;) Nightblades - As I said, not sure it ever came out in full..I believe it was test-played. Damned - Not sure why it was closed other than several recodes. The last recode was supposedly being undertaken by Beldin. Mages - This guild was replaced with Simyarins some time around 1995. Original Monks - They had existed before I was around as Ingis, the recode is what we play now plus some additional recodes. Musicians - I'm not sure, but I thought it had been around when I started playing although it was probably closed by then. The area was still there however. I remember the lore heard about it. Agnostics - This one I believe was around when I started but closed soon after. Chaos - This one I used to have a character in. Those we knew the guild would remember, I believe, 'explode head?' Dragons - This guild was closed about time I started, mortal enemy to Damned. Dragon Hunters - I don't remember this one at all open while I was here. Drunks - I remember when this one came about. They pk against Damned guild. Talk about bad breath. Prophets - This one was the last bastion of the old guilds closed. By old guilds, I mean those where you could come in and get full skills at level 19. Most newer guilds (anything khorne and past, had to adhere to a skills based system, where if you left, you came back with nothing...this was to prevent a lot of guild hopping and of course add feeling to the guilds) Runed - This had not been open when I started but was talked about. Kittens - This one lasted for a year or so but was extremely popular among the mortals. All of my new characters used to start out in this guild and I have many fond memories of it. Now all my characters start in Adventurer's Guild, which did not exist when I first started. Hunters - This was also a very popular guild and is missed by many players. Arcane Investigators - I don't remember this one being around when I started. Cult of EVIL - This guild was also not around when I started. Trivia...which guild do you think was the earliest guild? /Snafu :D Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Some guild that could take anything and throw it at people, wildly and violently! ;) Heh... that was ours. It's still not open, because we just don't have time... anyone worthy want to take it over? The power you mentioned was the "Tantrum" power in the Guild of Simpletons. It really should be created. It came about through a conversation with a character named Bix. So did Lepers... Title: Re: Old Guilds... Post by: Iceblink on April 11, 2004, 05:17:50 PM Quote from: Snafu Nightblades - As I said, not sure it ever came out in full..I believe it was test-played. This is the case. I was one of the test players for the guild. It had some great ideas, but a busy guildmaster, and it lacked the playability for a guild that would last a while. Quote from: Snafu Damned - Not sure why it was closed other than several recodes. The last recode was supposedly being undertaken by Beldin. I testplayed the recode also. Unfortunately, it was mostly formed damned players that tested it, and we pretty much found it a little boring. It just lacked that certain spark... Quote from: Snafu Drunks - I remember when this one came about. They pk against Damned guild. Talk about bad breath. Has there been a better rivalry since? Title: Old guilds.... Post by: Snafu on April 11, 2004, 05:24:53 PM Quote from: Iceblink Has there been a better rivalry since? The closest, that would be interesting were it even possible, would be Knights vs Vikings. I mean, there IS a viking attack. Now that'd be fun. Other ones might be Khorne (no magic) vs Simyarins (pure magic) /Snafu :D Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: sUiko-den on April 12, 2004, 12:12:50 AM thanks for the information Snafu, some of them sound really nice. wish i was here when those guild still was around...
btw, about rivaly, i remember i time when lepers and vampires would be mortal fiends. remembered when 2 or more lepers was outside the mansion just waiting for a certain victim to come out  Title: Vampires vs lepers Post by: Snafu on April 12, 2004, 05:50:31 AM That would be hilarious with the group powers in lepers. Especially when one thinks of the traditional vampire as beyond getting diseases and lepers full of disease.
/Snafu :D Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Kherec on April 12, 2004, 06:11:33 AM Two lepers were a rare sight, it was usually 4-5 of them, when they dared come out and play ;)
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: sUiko-den on April 12, 2004, 10:55:48 AM yeah, think thats the correct number. well i would dare challenge a vampire alone if i wasnt in need of my bandage. and if the vampires didn't have that power which make everyone unable to move :P
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Kherec on April 12, 2004, 02:35:48 PM But you're right, there were a lot of competition Vampires vs Lepers, until the Darks came around, tearing through your bandages like there was no tomorrow ;)
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Belegur on April 12, 2004, 04:57:19 PM Old kniggets kicked some serious butt. Combination of berserk and fireball was a ton of fun. :)
Gotta love the old Chaos guild. Nothing better than turning everyone into a bunch of chickens. I remember being a testplayer for Avis' lepers with Photon and then being able to slip through the cracks and keep the character even though the other testplayers were deleted. Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Avis on April 21, 2004, 04:36:52 PM Ah yes, Simpletons. Icelink and Kiki asked for some coding help. I whipped everything up in a few days (most of it was done). In fact, there was only ONE POTENTIAL infinite recursion bug that kept it from ever opening.
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Viper on May 24, 2005, 03:00:24 PM Runed were originally coded by Marius, Newt took it over later.
Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Kymn on May 25, 2005, 06:39:41 AM I remember hearing something about mtheads or something like that, you could make your head explode causing fantastic damage, what guild was that?
As to why these guilds were closed, almost in every case it was either because the guild master was absent or unwilling to fix/balance things that was needed after lib recodes, new security issues, player exploits, etc. Some guilds was saved by hard working wizards like Slakktor saving Cthulhu, Dannoc and later on Barbarella saving Monks, or admins taking over the hard work it means to maintain a guild. The hardest blow to my mortal playing was when Vincent let go of Hunters, I really liked that guild. Title: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Snafu on May 31, 2005, 11:36:59 AM Don't get me started on hunters :( That was quite a blow for Nanny.
As for the other guild, it was Chaos Guild I believe, by Cabal? /Snafu :D Title: Prophets Post by: Oasis on January 01, 2006, 12:39:56 AM I think Nanny needs a guild like this again...... The biggest problem I have with the guilds in Nanny at the moment is that they all have eq or align restrictions (except Adventurers and Masters) Why not have a guild or 2 that is mediocre and has no restrictions..... I think it would promote exploration and experimentation. No frills.... just modified adventurers..... doubt it will happen, but I'd love to see it.

Or is there perhaps already such information in, for example, Snafu's own area?I have heard of mages guild and lightning and Kittens and their mass healing and the damned and their undead and I played a hunter when they were online. Care to give a newbie a clue to what the guilds were, what theme and powers they had? :) I'd love some more nostalgia, can't get enough of it! Did I mention the musicians' guild, btw? Spell of vibration anyone? Title: Kittens guild Post by: bayar on February 23, 2007, 02:32:51 AM Ah yes, finnaly I found the legendary spamfunet(dont really try :D )
As to my question: what were the kittens power , and is there a chance to get it recoded ? I promice that if I ever get wizzed, I will learn to code and create the Semi Demon Guild (with cat demons, fox demons and wulf demons) each with their own powers :) Title: Re: Kittens guild Post by: Carrion on February 23, 2007, 04:09:39 PM Ah yes, finnaly I found the legendary spamfunet(dont really try :D ) As to my question: what were the kittens power , and is there a chance to get it recoded ? Go for it, Bayar :) And for the kittens' guild, Vulcan might just recode it between all other areas and guilds he's refreshing :) Title: Re: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Avis on February 25, 2007, 03:03:03 AM For the record, Arcane Investigators was open at least into 1994. It had an awesome power that told you the name of anything you could "examine" in any room. You could also steal things from NPCs, which was very handy for whenever some Drunk troublemaker would give Alexii's key to the gardener. You also became more "insane" the more you used your powers. It was basically a handy guild for questers.

Title: Re: Old (closed) Guilds... Post by: Avis on February 26, 2007, 12:25:40 AM Oh, and noone mentioned Panic's Elementals Guild.
