Title: Nasty mazes
Post by: Snafu on August 14, 2004, 09:01:31 PM
Lets get the first topic started with Nasty Mazes...

Tips and tricks anyone?

For instance...earlier today...I was playing mortal...um...yes...don't shake your head...I am playing mortal again...and have for the past week. *gasp* I know you're thinking: Has he lost his mind! (well wonders never cease).

Anywho...back to the topic...nasty mazes...

I happened to wander into Dreamhood's area...and got lost in his field of dreams.

ACK! Several problems with this...

Polar remembers once being teleported out of there.

If you drop coins...they get eaten by the grass...

If you dig hole with spade...those get swallowed as well...

Valdor got me out of there...and a few others know how...

The only way to even try to map it out...would be to have a few characters help you out since they can't be swallowed by the grass...

You can't 'wake up' or 'dream' or be teleported out anymore even.

So be careful when treading in Dreamhood's area.

As long as we are on the topic of nasy mazes....
I too was playing my mortal, wait a second, I only do play mortals!?
If I ever Wiz you can start to wonder about my sanity as well.

Anyways... about mazes...
I have noted that some people have had trouble with Loreley's maze.  I will admit that it seems a bit daunting at first, but if you recall that she was quite the intrepid explorer....

I strongly suggest that anyone in her area check every room thouroughly before moving on, you will likely find something later on that will require you to have seen something earlier.  If you follow this bit of advice, you will have all the tools you need to get through the maze there, if you don't follow this advice, you may never even get to the maze.

I actually thought it was impossible to get out of that maze by yourself, that it was more or less just one room? This would be most interesting to get a hint on, I'd try immediately with one of my 2nds!

One maze that has gotten 'worse' is Akilles' (black plague) maze, remember when the solution was 'sweden' (possibly 'sweeden')?

It is EXTREMELY difficult to do solo. But...with a druid it may be possible as they can use their owls as a marker (this was one way I was told it could be done...)

It IS more than one room as Labyrinth was trying to get me out with her Sim...we noticed that there are at least 2 or possibly 3+ rooms. She quit once and the spade she had was left in the ground...that could be considered a marker as well.

Valdor told me that when he tried to get out before, he also had help with at least one other person...which could be considered a marker.

It might be worth trying to get a group together to mark it out using coin method, except using players for coins. *snicker*

And yes, I remember the days when SWEDEN was the solution. That was hilarious. Alas, it is no more as has been said.

Use the chalk that you can buy in Akilles area for mapping Loreleys
maze. Donno if it works in the field of dreams though.

Good idea. I also noticed that anything left in the room through quitting stays. So, you can theoretically get a bunch of players with 1 item apiece and when they quit leaving markers.

*grin*

Ok, about Dreamhood's maze... Now I'm confident to escape it, it wasn't that hard when you KNEW it was possible. As said before, the trick to map it is to use live stuff, chalk writings seem to disappear, some dug holes stayed though, but got chewed up later... When you end up on a plateau, you're almost out of the maze :)

What I would like to know now is if anyone got the moonglow collecting to work. I get 'sensitive mind' when I try.

Surprisingly enough, bugs get fixed faster if you report them in the mud using the 'bug' command instead of writing about them in this forum.

Bah! I actually thought I _did_ report it... Well, I'll do my home work this time, master ;)

Proof that admin come here too, but don't use this as an excuse not to post bugs ;)

(At least I know Carrion did not intend that)

Tips and tricks should be about real benefits, not bugs. If it's a bug, it WILL be fixed ;)

In my experience, sensitive mind errors are fixed very fast. Much faster than any reward that you don't get because of them anyway.

Its happened to me a few times,. I once got one on raising GD khorne level,  got a rank + 0 reward + 0 name change and was ignored when I asked for it to be fixed. The admin can be good at treating us like total shit.

Still, we can always go elsewhere I suppose.

Thank you, I did give it a try and managed to escape the fields digging holes in rooms where they didn't disappear and trying to map it that way.

It IS possible :)

Actually, as far as I can tell this entire puzzle never worked since the area first opened.  The hole-digging is supposed to act as a marker, for example.  And the cauldron would also get eaten by the grass in the place you're supposed to drop it.  And even if that didn't happen, the commands were all broken.

Anyway, I've submitted a revised version of the whole area for review.

There are lots of nasty mazes (I don't like mazes since everything is a maze to me already  ). Would you like me to start listing them?
